Entre as 10 há 60% de músicas estrangeiras. Paul McCartney, há 12 semanas, ocupa o 1o. lugar novamente. 'Oh me oh my', com B.J.

Lafayette Coelho Varges Limp, born on 11 March 1943, was a pianist-organist who became the main session instrumentist at CBS studios in Rio de Janeiro as of 1964. Ever since playing a Hammond organ for an Erasmo Carlos recording and then doing the same with Roberto Carlos' album 'Jovem Guarda', he became a fixture in the Brazilian recording business and introduced the infamous 'organ sound' to saturation. In 1965, Lafayette recorded his first album for CBS, covering current hits with his organ. He only stopped 30 LPs later. His albums were released in more than 30 different countries. 'Lafayette apresenta os sucessos - Volume 11' he plays George Harrison's 'My sweet Lord', Francis Lai's 'Love story', Elizabeth's 'P'ra começo de assunto', Jackson Five's 'I'll be there' and Lynn Anderson's 'Rose garden'.

European rock kept coming strong through 1971 and it would become bigger by the end of the year. Century was a French hard-rock band; former teen-age heart-throb Michel Laurent was produced by New York band The Mardi Gras and took 'Sing sing Barbara' high up the charts. Wanderléa covered it in Portuguese as 'Bye bye'; US trio Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds had a breakthrough with 'Don't pull your love out' and The Mike Curb Congregation sang 'Burning bridges' theme from the movie 'Kelly's heroes'.

Caetano Veloso records an album in exile in London: on A side: 'A little more blue', 'London, London' & 'Maria Bethania'; on B side: 'If you hold a stone', 'Shoot me dead', 'In the hot sun of a Christmas day' & Luiz Gonzaga's 'Asa branca'. It is understandably a gloomy oeuvre due to Caetano's state of mind not having yet rebounded from his illegal imprisonment & incarceration by the Military Dictatoship in 1968-1969.
CBS always released a compilation album titled 'As 14 mais' by mid-year to start beefing up its sales pre-Christmas. It usually featured a Roberto Carlos new song that almost inevitably would reach #1 in a few weeks of air-play. 'Amada amante' is the case with Volume 25. CBS also introduced some new talent. New comer Diana (real name Ana Maria Siqueira Iório, born in 2 June 1954) had the 2nd biggest hit of the album with 'Ainda queima a esperança' written by Raul Seixas who would became famous on his own right within 2 years. Cauby Peixoto who had been around since 1955, came back to the charts with 'Cigano do amor' (Il cuore è un zingaro). It's funny to realize that some of these hits were localized. Peixoto's single did not play at São Paulo radio stations at all. It was more like Rio de Janeiro and the Northern part of the country. Brazil is a large country. The same applies to Osvaldo Oliveira that only sold records in the North & Northeast Brazil.

Carole King fora compositora de sucessos como 'The loco-motion', 'Will you still love me tomorrow' e dezenas de outras.
Note: Amiga's columnist hardly ever checked out his notes. Here he claims that Carole King was 'discovered' while taking part in the filming of Joe Cocker's 'Mad dogs & Englishmen'. This is not true at all. Carole King had been on the road since the late 1950s writing songs at the now legendary Brill Building on Broadway.
