How would I define 1972 musically? Judging by the top 10 singles of the year, it points to Brazilian independent labels that released material from small European and US companies gaining a lot of market share  at an amazing rate and sidelining the major record companies.

'Mamy blue' by Ricky Shayne was made in Germany; 'There's no more corn on the Brasos' was recorded in Holland by a Dutch outfit; 'Summer Holiday' by Terry Winter and 'Tell me once again' by Brazilian combo Light Reflection were made in Brazil; 'I am so happy' which was originally written as 'Igual que ayer, igual que antes' was made in Buenos Aires, Argentina

So one could accurately say 1972 Brazilian hit parade was dominated by non-native-English-speaking acts by the rate of two to one. English-titled singles were two-thirds of the charts.
