If you look close at Amiga's July 1974 singles-chart you'll bound to notice the Brazilian charts were lagging behind at least 2 years from that of the USA's . Number one 'Stop, look, listen to your heart' had been originally recorded by The Stylistics in 1971, then covered by Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye in 1972 for an album that kept being delayed its release many a time due to the chart actions of previous albums by the famous duo.

Stevie Wonder's 'Sylvia' was an 8 year-old hit having been released in 1966 when Stevie was a teenager. The Stylistic's 'You are everything' was a hit in January 1972 followed up by 'Betcha by Golly wow' that reached #4 on April 1972. Detroit's Dramatics were even older for they first formed in 1964 and finally hit #5 on 22 April 1972 with 'In the rain' which hits the Brazilian charts more than 2 years later.

'Super Manoela' ran from 21st January 1974 through to 5 July 1974 at 7:00 PM.

'Black beat' spawned hits like 'Thanks for saving my life' (Billy Paul) and 'That lady' (Isley Brothers).

'Super Parada Mundial' was another best-selling album released by TV Globo's own Som-Livre label. The album was made up of mostly American Top-40 hits played incessantly by Radio Mundial do Rio de Janeiro - that was owned by TV Globo too. Most of those songs were also played on TV Globo's soap-operas that dominated night-time viewing in the country. In less than 10 years TV Globo became an almost monopoly helped by its owners's cozy relationship with the Military Dictatorship that was the scourge of the country.

As Brazilians found hard to memorize English titles DJs at Rio de Janeiro's Radio Mundial devised a way to cirmcumvent that handicap: they started calling English-language songs as 'Melô' such and such... 'melô' being short for 'melodia' (melody)... so The Chubukos' 'Witch doctor bump' became 'Melô do pato' (Duck's melody), George McRae's 'Woman' became 'Melô do puladinho', a reference to the disc's rhythm; Al Downing's 'I'll be holding on' turned into 'Melô do banjo'; Housemartins' 'Build' became 'Melô do papel'; B.T. Express' 'Express' obviously 'Melô do trem'... and so on.
